Ethel J. Crane, 91, of Davis Corners Road, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at her home. Born March 18, 1923, in Lake Dunmore, VT, she is predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Maude (Turner) Johnson, and her late husband of 56 years, Lee Robert Crane, and a brother, Robert Johnson. Ethel will always be remembered as a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and community member. She was a talented quilter and seamstress and enjoyed hosting The Needlers club at her home. Ethel was an active member of the Morrisville Community Church and the New Hope Circle. She was a member of the Friends of the Morrisville Library and a volunteer at the Clothes Basket and a tutor with the literacy program. She was an accomplished cook and baker and a voracious reader. Ethel was a recipient of the Roses to the Living award for her volunteer service. Ethel graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY and received her masters degree in home economics from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. She taught home economics in Spencer, NY and then at the Morrisville-Eaton Central School until her retirement. She is survived by her children, James (Kay) Crane of Walton, NY, Helen Crane (John Fandel) of Ontario, NY, Frederick (Elizabeth) Crane of Hagerstown, IN; Carol (Steven) Cross of Palmer, AK, Ruth (Paul) Capotosto of Berwick, PA, David (Tami) Crane of Chenango Forks, NY; a brother, Andrew Johnson of New Haven, VT; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 on August 23, 2014, at the Morrisville Community Church, 3824 Swamp Road, Morrisville, NY. Interment in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Odessa, NY will be private. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Morrisville Community Church, PO Box 178, Morrisville, NY 13408.
