Lawrence F. DuChene, age 65, of Mt. Vernon Apts., passed away Saturday evening, July 25, 2009, in University Hospital. Larry was born on October 4, 1943, in Oneida, New York, a son of the late Frank and Eunice (Landers) DuChene and was a graduate of Oneida High School. On August 1, 1964, Larry married Yvonne Bonnie Kirk in St. Patricks Church, Oneida. Larry enjoyed coaching little league and Pop Warner football teams in Sherrill, and later went on to coach Pop Warner teams in Oneida. He enjoyed camping, canoeing and fishing at Otter Lake and the Adirondack Mountains, and was an avid V.V.S. basketball fan. His memberships include the American Legion Post 230 of Sherrill, and the Knot Hole Club of Sherrill, where he served on its board for many years. He had an artistic gift that he inherited from his Dad Frank. Prior to his retirement, Larry was the head custodian with the William Wettel Elementary School in Vernon. Surviving are his wife, Bonnie DuChene of Sherrill; two sons, Joe DuChene of Oneida, and Frank DuChene of Sherrill; one brother, John DuChene of Sherrill; one sister, Laurel (Joseph) Corby of Broadalbin; step-granddaughter, Skye DuChene of Sherrill; brother-in-law, Ed Kirk of Sherrill; also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and two special lifelong friends, Angie Ottaviano and Pat Sterling. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home, Inc., 464 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Helenas Church, Primo Ave., Sherrill. Burial will follow in St. Helenas Cemetery, Oneida.
