Shirley A. Widay
Utica, NY - Washburn, ME
Shirley A. Widay, 78, born August 17, 1931, in Troy, NY, to the late John and Ethel Byerwalters, passed from this life on June 27, 2010, with her loving family by her side. Shirley worked for many years at Faxton Hospital in Utica, before being disabled from a back injury that slowed her down, but never stopped her. She loved hanging out with her friends in Utica and going to bingo. She lived a good life and she was a tough cookie right up to the end. She lived most of her life in Utica, NY, where she raised and cared for her children as a single mom, before her daughter and son-in-law brought her to live with them in Northern Maine, where she spent her last five years. She was the last surviving sibling of eight children, including Frankie Byerwalters, Ethel Balfoort Burdick, John Balfoort, Mary Balfoort King, Richard Byerwalters, Joseph Byerwalters and Theresa Byerwalters Murphy, all of New York. Shirley leaves behind three children: daughter, Sharon Widay Recchio and husband, James, Frankfort, NY; son, James Widay and wife, Tina, New Hartford, NY; and her baby daughter, Tammy Saucier and husband, Karl Sr., Washburn, ME. She also leaves behind many grandchildren who she adored and would have done anything for, Marcus Recchio and wife, Kristine, Oriskany Falls, NY, Jason Recchio, Frankfort, NY, Chrisandra Recchio Grimes, Frankfort, NY, James Widay Jr. and wife, Jenny, USAF FL, Kelly Widay, Albany, NY, Joel (Boomer) Saucier and wife, Sabine, Weisbaden, Germany, Mitchell Saucier and Karl Saucier Jr., Washburn, ME; and some special great-grandchildren, Ariel Recchio, Nikko Recchio, Oriskany Falls, NY, Kayla Grimes, Dante Grimes, Frankfort, NY, Keegan Widay, Albany, NY, Ellie Saucier, Weisbaden, Germany, and Peytyn Saucier due October 29th, 2010, Washburn, ME; and many nieces and nephews, and a special niece, Patricia King, Utica, NY. Shirley also had some very special caregivers, Kelscee Curry, Washburn, ME, Cynthia Doody, Washburn, ME, and Jennifer Caron, Presque Isle, ME. Shirley will be sorely missed by everyone that knew her, she is now where she wanted to be, with her mom and dad and all her brothers and sisters in Heaven, and her pain is forever gone. There will be a special ceremony on Shirleys birthday, August 17th, in Albany, NY, where she will be laid to rest with her mother.
