Brian J. Strickler, 49, of 7756 Oxbow Road, Canastota, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011, at Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare, Utica, following a brief illness, with his family by his side. He was born on August 15, 1961, in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, the son of James and Patricia Rye Strickler. Brian spent his early years in Chittenango, attending the Chittenango schools. He has lived in the Canastota area most of his life. He worked as a self-employed building contractor, both locally and out of state. Brian enjoyed riding, repairing, and racing motorcycles. Surviving are his longtime companion, Betty Jo Schelah of Canastota; his father and step-mother, James and Nicoletta Nicki Strickler of Clark Mills; a brother, Jeff Strickler and his fiance Debra J. Mott of North Syracuse; two step-sisters and step-brothers-in-law, Michele and Phil Przyluke of Cassville, and Bernadette and Jeffrey Ulmer of Connecticut; a step-brother and step-sister-in-law, James Jimi and Buffy Grande of Burke, VA; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Brian was predeceased by a sister, Penny Strickler. Memorial services will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, at the J. HomerBall Funeral Home, Inc.,Canastota. His uncle, Chaplain Joseph Woods, will officiate. The family will greet friends on Saturday, prior to the funeral, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home, 201 James Street, Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to the CNY Chapter, 110 Lomond Court, Utica, NY 13502-5950.
