Richard Moriarity, 47, passed unexpectedly on Friday, September 16, 2011, at St. Lukes Hospital. Rich was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of John and Grace Moriarity. He was a lifelong resident of upstate New York, including the Utica, Rochester and Buffalo areas, graduating from East High School, Rochester, NY, class of 1982. Rich served in the United States Air Force from December, 1984, through April, 1988, and the reserves through 1992. He was a jet engine mechanic working on B-52s, stationed at Wurtsmith AFB. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1992. He was a great music lover, having seen many live performances of many bands, due to his father managing many public performance venues while he was growing up, including the Utica Memorial Auditorium. He was employed by Gaffney Well Drilling, Whitesboro, NY, for 23 years. He was proud to be a New York State licensed water well driller with a National Certification. Rich was a trusted right hand man and will be greatly missed. He was a veteran driller of some thousand successful wells in NYS. Rich had a kind heart, especially for dogs. He carried treats wherever he went. He was an enthusiastic, optimistic friend to all who knew him; the type of guy who would drop everything to help a friend. Rich was predeceased by his parents. He leaves three sisters, Linda, Turtle Creek, PA, Roni, Rome, NY, and Barbara, Elizabethtown, PA, and one brother, Thomas, Ilion, NY. There will be no viewing or calling hours as the family will cremate the remains which will be buried with his parents in St. Marys Church Cemetery, Sharpsburg, PA 15215. The family will invite friends to a local gathering at a later date.
