Louis Falvo Obituary

Louis A. Falvo, Jr.
New Hartford
Mr. Louis A. Falvo, Jr., age 75, of New Hartford, passed into eternity on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 with the support and guidance of his wife and children. Louis was born in Utica on May 16, 1936, the son of the late Louis A. and Frances (Howlin) Falvo. He was educated in Utica schools and graduated from Thomas R. Proctor High, where he played varsity baseball and basketball. He continued his education at the L.C. Smith College of Engineering at Syracuse University and received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. Upon graduation, Louis joined his father in business at H.J. Brandeles Corporation, a company founded in 1897. His engineering aptitude enabled him to transform the company into one of the most successful and respected mechanical contracting firms in Central New York. Upon his father's death, Louis became corporate President, a role he continued to fill until his passing. On February 9, 1963, he married Elaine Mancuso. Together the couple had four children creating a strong family unit that was a source of pride to him throughout his life. Although many people who knew Louis personally were impressed by his strong work ethic, he did find time to pursue other interests. He enjoyed collecting first day issue stamps, coins, and model cars. After entrusting his business to his children, Louis found a new passion, the new residence he built in Naples, Florida. He was very proud of his second home and loved the regular visits from his children and grandchildren. In his later years, he was happiest relaxing there with his family. In addition to his career at H.J. Brandeles, Louis fulfilled numerous roles. He was President of Lincoln Pipe and Supply Company, a wholesale business based in Utica. He served as a voluntary member of the Board of Trustees for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 79/Local 112, where he also was a member of the Pension, Welfare and Annuity Funds for 5 decades. He was President of the Mohawk Valley Mechanical Contractors Association for 27 years. He was the original organizer and President of the New Hartford Marching Spartans Band Parents Organization, the First President of the Central New York Chapter of the Epilepsy Foundation of America, a board member at the Resource Center for Independent Living, Chief of Engine Eleven firefighters support organization, and a coach for Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. Louis was also a member of the Elks Club, the Fort Schuyler Club, and the Yahnundasis Golf Club. Giving back to the community was extremely important to Louis. He believed that philanthropic pursuits would allow him to contribute to the success of society. He supported Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care Center, St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Syracuse University, Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc., the House of the Good Shepherd, the New Hartford Public Library, United Way, and St. John the Evangelist Church. Louis is survived by his wife, Elaine; his sons, daughters, and their spouses, Marylouise Russo and her husband James, Richard M. Falvo and his wife Tracy, Louis A. Falvo III and his wife Kristen, and Francine F. Babikian and her husband David; his grandchildren, Louis Rosato and Severine Russo, Christina, Nicole and Richard Falvo; Alexis, Allison and Anthony Falvo; and Isabella and Drew Babikian; his step-grandchildren, Bryan, Kristin and Luke Miller; and his sister, Terry Ann Durant. Louis' honesty and integrity helped him forge many relationships, both personal and professional. He was especially close to Richard E. Alexander, Jr., and Pat and John Morgan. Many fine health care professionals cared for Louis in his final year. His family would like to acknowledge his confidence in Susan Griffing, N.P., and Amelia Palmer, his caregiver for the last 6 weeks. Louis' funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning (today) at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at St. John the Evangelist Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Zareski and Rev. Paul Drobin. Committal services will follow in Christ Our Savior Chapel at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Lou, Dad, Papa, You have been our mentor, our strength, and our guiding light. Go in peace and light the way until we meet again. Online tributes at: www.Eannace FuneralHome.com

Dear Falvo Family,
I am very sad to learn of Louie's passing. I worked at Brandeles in the 1960's for him and his father. I was also in the Army Reserve with him during the 60's. After college Louie learned much about the sprinkler busines from my father who also worked at Brandeles as did my grandfather and brother. Louie was a good and honorable man whom I respected very much. As a boss he was always good to me and as a fellow soldier he was a caring friend. I last saw him about 10 years ago. I am glad that I had that chance and the opportunity to know him. My thoughts and prayers are with the Falvo family.

I met Mr. Falvo for the first time at granddaughter Bella's First Communion. I remember feeling how lucky my friend Cina was to have such a warm and loving father. He seemed like the perfect dad! Throughout the years I have been awed by the love and support within the Falvo family. Mr. and Mrs. Falvo truly created a solid foundation based upon the love and reverence of family. I know in my heart that Mr. Falvo will forever remain in the hearts and souls of his wife, children and grandchildren. How blessed he was to be surrounded by so much love and devotion. My thoughts and prayers go out to my wonderful friend Cina and all of her family. Love, Karen Palumbo
