Eric M. Smith, Sr.
Eric M. Smith, Sr., 85, of Whitesboro, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care in New Hartford. He was born on October 23, 1926, in Pelham, NY, a son of the late Raymond and Ethel (Harris) Smith. He was a graduate of Wooster School in Danbury, CT, he attended Brown University and later graduated from Western Connecticut University. He served his country with honor in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II and the Korean War. On March 23, 1951, he was united in marriage to Ann Senew, a blessed union of over 61 years. Mr. Smith was employed with General Electric for his entire career, retiring after 35 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the General Electric Elfun Society and the Lions Club. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved and supported his family. He was always at his happiest when he was surrounded by his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Ann, of Whitesboro, and his sons, Eric M. Smith, Jr., and his wife, Sarah, of Skaneateles, NY, and Gregory H. Smith, of Gainesville, VA. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Lara, Maximillian, Leighton, Aubrey, Addison, Andrew and Margaret. He was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond, Harris and David. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main St., Whitesboro.
