Diane M. Skermont Benoit 58, of New York Mills, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Siegenthaler Center surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on June 29, 1954, in Utica, a daughter of the late Edward and Evelyn (Lockwood) Sweezey.
Diane was employed for many years with Blue Cross in Utica, retiring early due to her illness.
Diane was known as jokester by her family and friends. She was a true and genuine friend who would give you her last dime in her pocket and choose to go without, just to help a friend. She loved roses especially her rose garden at home. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She loved and cherished her children and adored grandchildren.
She is survived by her two beloved sons, Keith Skermont and his wife, Gina, of Yorkville, and Jason Skermont, of New York Mills, and his companion, Marcey Gromling. She also leaves her adored grandchildren, Jordan Bennett, Colin and Keith Skermont; her sisters and brothers, and their spouses, Edward Sweezey and his wife, Rusty, of Spring Grove, PA, Gail Owen and her companion, Edwin McTiernan, of Utica, Pamela Jones and her husband, Dean, of Deerfield, Sandra Sweezey, of New York Mills, and Michael Sweezey and his wife, Yamany, of Orlando, FL; 19 nieces and nephews; and 25 great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 4:00 PM at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 1123 Court at York Sts., Utica, with Rev. Laurie Pauley officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery on Monday at 10:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday prior to the service from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
