Erik Kent Obituary

Erik J.
Kent
GLENFORD, NY
Erik John Kent, 38, of Glenford, NY, passed away unexpectedly as the result of a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, December 12, 2013. Erik was born on July 15, 1975, in Utica, NY, the son of John R. and Wendy L. Kent, Jr. Erik graduated from Whitesboro Central High School and went on to achieve a Bachelors Degree in Geology from Saint Lawrence University, where he was a 4-year member of the NCAA Division 1 Nordic Ski Team. He then obtained a Masters Degree in Geological Sciences from Binghamton University. After college, Erik worked as a geologist in environmental site remediation and later in the golf course management industry. Recently, he participated in an Innovative Manufacturing Technology Program, where he found a new skill in precision machine operation. This led to his current employment at AMETEK Rotron, Woodstock, NY, as a precision machine operator. In addition to his academic and professional accomplishments, Erik was always especially proud of his having attained the rank of Eagle Scout, BSA. Erik was much loved by his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, John and Wendy, of Whitesboro; sisters, Kristen E. Axe and her husband, Brent, of East Syracuse, and Katherine A. Kent, of Frisco, CO; and his niece, Sophie Lynn Axe, who held a special place in Eriks heart. He is also survived by his former wife, Margaret (Woodbury) Kent, of Glens Falls, who remained a very close friend. Additionally, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Eunice Shaw, of Syracuse, as well as several uncles and aunts, and numerous cousins. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21st, at Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main Street, Whitesboro. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Eriks name to Operation Sunshine, the Humane Society, or a non-profit organization of your choice. I just found out tonight. Thinking of the cross country ski season ending and just having moved back to upstate ny. Thought of my friend Erik. We skied together, biked and ran together. I can see his smile right now.
