PHILADELPHIA, PA – David John Pierce, 61, died in his home in Philadelphia, of liver cancer on Sunday, September 2, 2018.
He was born on September 13, 1956, in St. Luke's Hospital, to Robert and Jean (Miller) Pierce. He attended John F. Kennedy High School and graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta and Georgia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Math.
In 1982, he married the love of his life, Janet Brown, who he met at GE in Utica.

He taught high school math after health problems developed.
He was an Episcopalian and attended St. Paul's Church in N. Utica and those teachings never left him.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Athalia and Andrew Ballantyne; son, Randolph Brown; and two grandchildren, Colton and Paxton Ballantyne; mother, Jean; siblings, Cathy Jean (Joe) Conlon, Binghamton, Jane Ann Heal, Brattleboro, VT; and Anne-Marie (Jay) Yates, Albany. A memorial service at his home in Philadelphia will be held at a later date.
He was a kind, gentle boy who is now with his father in Heaven. Never lose faith – God shows the way – Love is the key to everything.
