Brennan, Hildegard*
Brennan, Hildegard 10/13/1931 ~ 05/21/2015 OCEANSIDE -- Hildegard Adelheid Brennan (nee Busold) died peacefully at her home in Oceanside, CA, on May 21, 2015, from heart failure following a brief hospitalization for pneumonia. Hildegard was born on October 13, 1931 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, the daughter of the late Karl Heinrich Busold and Emilie Therese Jakobus. Following a challenging childhood in Munich, Germany, Hildegard culminated her education by becoming a gifted linguist in her teens. This would lead to her chance meeting with a young American Army 2nd Lieutenant, Edward J. Brennan, Jr., in Munich in 1950. What followed was a 65 year love story which led to her emigration to the U.S. as a young bride in 1953. While adjusting to her new surroundings, Hildegard bore and raised two children as Edward completed his education and built his career. By any standard, Hildegard's life was successful and fulfilling, and she touched many lives through her five years as a high school teacher and many volunteer and mentoring activities. Her family was always at the center of her life and Hildegard was "communications central"* for everyone. Hildegard is survived by her devoted husband, Edward; son Michael (daughter-in-law Sandy) of Sleepy Hollow, IL, and daughter Karin (son-in-law Dennis Randall) of Carlsbad, CA; her brother, Wilhelm "Willi" Busold (sister-in- law, Beate) and nephew Markus (and family) of Munich, Germany; grandchildren Steven Brennan of Palatine, IL, and Kristin Bartholomew of Carpentersville, IL (and their families, including three great- grandchildren Aubrey, Trenton, and Robert); two step-grandchildren (Michael Randall and Kimberly Brown and her family); along with a number of other relatives and lifelong friends. A joint celebration of life will be held for Hildegard and Edward once God has seen fit to reunite them in heaven. Until that time, donations would be appreciated in Hildegard's name to St. Jude at www.stjude.org .

Brown, Ruth Miller*
Brown, Ruth Miller 08/30/1925 ~ 05/24/2015 OCEANSIDE -- Ruth Brown, 89, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, May 24. She was born in Santa Rosa, CA, to Leslie and Marjorie Miller and raised on Miller's Dairy in Sebastopol. Ruth received her BS in Nursing from UC San Francisco in 1946 and began her career as an RN in the Bay Area. She married J. Rudger "Jack" Brown in June 1947, and they moved south to Van Nuys, CA, to raise their family. Ruth worked for more than 20 years as an elementary school nurse for the Los Angeles Unified School District, spending her summers in the garden and on the family's cross-country vacations. Jack and Ruth retired to Oceanside in 1984. Together they raised beautiful roses, traveled the world, and entertained friends and family at their welcoming home. Ruth was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church and a 28-year volunteer with the Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary. Ruth was known for her humor, vitality and strength of character - a testament to her rural roots - and for her warm and gracious personality. She was a caring friend and neighbor to young and old alike, many of whom shared in her morning walks, weekly card games, and annual fig crop. Ruth was a well-loved mother and grandmother, sister and aunt, who truly will be missed by all. She is survived by her daughters, Katherine Alves, Janice Brown, and Rebecca (David) Kilpatrick; son, James (Jerelyn) Brown; and her sister, Barbara Brown. She also is survived by eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and many devoted nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by Jack, her beloved husband of 66 years; and her brother and sister-in- law, Bill and Della Miller of Sebastopol. A memorial service will held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, at First Presbyterian Church, 2001 S. El Camino Real, Oceanside, followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Presbyterian Church or to the Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary at 4002 Vista Way, Oceanside, CA. 92056.
