ANTON KOLLAR

iconKOLLAR, ANTON Reverend Anton Kollar O.Carm. Carmelite Reverend Anton Kollar, O.Carm., died November 20, 2012, in San Diego, CA. He was 87. Fr. Anton was born in Braddock, PA, on May 14, 1925, to the late Matthew and Anna (Gromoko) Kollar. He entered the Carmelites in 1944, professed first vows in 1945, and was ordained a priest in 1951. He served at St. Clara Parish, Chicago, IL, St. John's, Leonia, and Saint Cecilia's Englewood, both in NJ. He was also formation director at Infant of Prague Villa, in Akron, Ohio. Joining the U.S. Navy, Fr. Anton Kollar, O.Carm., served as chaplain for 26 years and received an honorable discharge in 1985 with the rank of Commander. He continued his service as Chaplain at Veterans Administration Hospital, CA. In 1995, Father Kollar retired to San Diego, where he remained until his death. He is survived by his brother William Kollar and by his sisters Margaret (Kollar) Sivrich and Elizabeth (Kollar) Schaum. He was predeceased by his brothers Cyril, Matthew, and Rudy. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, 1668 State Street, San Diego, CA, on Monday, November 26, 2012, with prayer service starting at 7:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will also take place at Our Lady of the Rosary on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at 10:00 AM. Following Mass, interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, California.
