BERT W. STEWART III

STEWART, BERT W. III Aug. 11, 1935 to Oct. 31, 2012 Retired Chief Master Sergeant Bert William Stewart III, 77, of San Diego, California passed away peacefully on October 31, 2012. He was preceded in death by father, Bert William Stewart II and mother, Margruette. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Claudette Berthe Marie Stewart, daughter Patricia M.J. Drake (Tom), son Bert William Stewart IV (Helen), daughter, Karine M. Semmer (Phil); grandchildren Nicole (Scott), Michelle (Dan), Celeste (Ronan), Jamie (Jerry), Bert V, Brittany, Josh; great grandchildren Allison, Lauren, Megan, Michael, Olivia, Tommy, Jack, Derrick, Madison, Spencer, Parker, Brendan; siblings Bob Stewart (Kathy), Bonnie Clark (Ron), Bruce Stewart (Patti). Bert has resided in San Diego, California for the past 30 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired after 30 years as a Chief Master Sergeant. His Air Force career included receiving the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Military Education Ribbon with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal with three Bronze Loops, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with six Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Additionally, while serving in the Air Force, Bert earned a Bachelor of Arts, Management, Park College, Kansas City, MO. After retiring from the Air Force, Bert enjoyed a second career working for 16 years at Loral TerraCom and L3 Communications in San Diego, California. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Bert was a passionate fisherman. He enjoyed many trips over the years to Alaska, Mexico and local ocean fishing. He also enjoyed home improvement projects and woodworking. Bert will be laid to rest with full military honors on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, California. Guests are asked to arrive between 9:30 - 9:45 a.m. Immediately following the service, the family is hosting a reception at Admiral Baker Club, 2400 Admiral Baker Rd., San Diego, CA 92120. The family requests memorials be directed to Make A Wish Foundation, Bert William Stewart III Memorial Fund, 2440 Hotel Circle North, Suite 200, San Diego, CA 92108.
