DICKEY JONES POLLICH

POLLICH, DICKEY JONES June 8, 1915 to January 27, 2013 Dickey passed away peacefully on January 27, 2013 at her home in Carlsbad, California, at the age of 97. Her constant smile and wonderful singing will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was born to Carol and F. Richard Jones in Los Angeles, California, where she graduated from Beverly Hills High School. She later became a graduate of the University of Southern California in 1938, where she majored in French and met her husband. Dickey married Gardiner T. Pollich in 1939, and supported him during his career as a U.S. Naval officer and afterward. Their tours of duty included stays at Pearl Harbor at the start of World War II in the Pacific theater, along with years in Boston, Rhode Island, California, Washington DC, Trinidad, Key West, Spain, and Virginia before returning to Northern California in 1968. In 1981, with Gardiner retired, they moved to Vista, CA. Along with French, Dickey also spoke Spanish, and enjoyed music of all types, reading, crossword puzzles, volunteering, traveling and entertaining her many friends and family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gardiner and is survived by her four children, Christine Pollich Waters (Denver, CO), Gardiner E. Pollich (Arlington, VA), Geoffrey Pollich (Boulder, CO), and Peter Pollich (Portland, OR). She was a loving grandmother to Felicia, Allen, Nikki, John, Jennifer, Mark, Melissa and Molly and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, CA, in the spring.
