DEMPSEY, DOROTHY ELEANOR July 16, 1920 to Dec. 23, 2012 Dorothy E. (Watson) Dempsey, 92, a resident of San Diego for more than 50 years, passed away in her sleep on December 23rd in the Skilled Nursing Facility at Las Villas del Norte in Escondido. Born July 16th, 1920, the youngest of four children born to John W.R. and Edith (Deeds) Watson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1941 she was swept off her feet by a U.S. Marine from Fort Bragg, California, Ralph Patrick Dempsey, who took only two months to convince her to marry him. Ralph and Dorothy raised two sons during Ralph's 22-year career as a Marine. Upon retirement in San Diego the couple was blessed with a third son. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years and sons Ralph Patrick Dempsey, Jr. and Robert Charles Dempsey II. She is survived by her son, John Watson "Jack" Dempsey (Jan) of Rancho Bernardo, daughter-in-law, Dorothy Dempsey of San Marcos, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Dorothy was an outgoing, gregarious person who cherished her family and was quick to make friends. Her ashes will be spread at sea off Point Loma where her husband's ashes were spread 22 years ago. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Las Villas del Norte for the care she received and friendships she made over the past four years. Cremation and ash scattering is being handled by the Telophase Society.
