MANSFIELD, EDWARD V. Edward V. Mansfield passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012. Born December 13, 1925, in Defiance, Ohio, Ed moved to Fallbrook, California, at the age of 14. On October 20, 1956, he married Janet L. Day. The house they moved into on February 1, 1958, proved to be his lifelong home. He passed away there, surrounded by family. Ed was in the V-12 Navy Program during World War II. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. In addition to a long career at Convair, Ed worked as a cartoonist, playwright, and screenwriter. His volunteer activities included being on the Sponsoring Committee for SDOP (San Diego Organizing Project); leading Marriage Encounter groups; writing promotional materials, cartoons, and newsletters for various organizations; and mentoring a young man at Nativity School. Ed's caring ways touched many people. He will be remembered most for his smile, his laugh and his sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, five children and their families, including five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Catholic memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, 4190 Front Street.
