Flor PeBenito "Cass" Castañeda(1926 - 2014)

Castañeda, Flor PeBenito "Cass" 11/25/1926 ~ 08/01/2014 SAN DIEGO -- Born in Tayum, Abra, Philippines, GySgt Castañeda, a true hero, fought in three wars. In WWII, as a Filipino Guerilla, and then in 1952, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served as an Aerial Navigator during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Post war he was a Radar Controller to be close to home and his family, and then last stationed at Camp Pendleton in 1970, when he moved his young family to San Diego. In 1972, retired from the Corps, he pursued careers with MetLife and the CA State Dept of Corrections. In retire- ment, Cass pursued his dreams of photo journalism and his passion for organic gardening, which enabled him to share more time with his family. Cass is survived by his loving wife of 56+ years, Adelheida; four children: Alarie, Filmer, Allyn and Fer; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A recipient of two Purple Hearts, Cass was laid to rest with full military honors at Miramar Nat'l Cemetery on August 12, 2014. Funeral arrangements by El Camino Mortuary.
