Collins Jr., Frank Charles SAN DIEGO -- Rear Admiral Frank Charles Collins, Jr. was born October 29, 1927 in El Paso, Texas. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on December 23, 2013 in San Diego, California. He was the son of Reverend Frank C. and Lucile Collins. He received his Bachelors degree from Louisiana State University
in 1950 and was a distinguished graduate of the Naval War College in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy
at the age of 17 in 1945. He was recalled for the Korean War
and attended Officer Candidate School in Newport where he received his Officer's Commission. He had a distinguished career and was selected for Flag rank in 1978. Career highlights included: tours of duty in Vietnam, numerous Westpac deployments and a tour in Iran upon his promotion to Admiral. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Rear Admiral in August 1983 after proudly serving his country for 33 years. Survivors include his beloved bride of 65 years, Esther Frances Shiell; seven children, Lucy Silveira, Sue Hekman, Francene Green, Virginia Friesen, Melissa Collins, Laura Leach and Frank C. Collins, III; seventeen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. His love for Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life both personally and professionally. He was always willing to share his faith with anyone who was interested but more importantly he lived out his faith on a daily basis. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at 3:00 in the afternoon at the Veteran's Museum and Memorial Center, 2115 Park Boulevard in San Diego. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to a memorial fund which has been established in his name at Immanuel Bible Church, 6911 Braddock Road, Springfield, Virginia 22151.
