Fowler, Frank D. SAN DIEGO -- Frank was born in Geneva, Iowa on May 23, 1928 to Floyd and Emma Fowler. In his late teens, Frank found his way into trucking, driving cattle to the Chicago stockyards. He joined the Army
in 1951, serving during the Korean War
, honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1954. Finding the Iowa winter unbearable upon his return from Korea, he followed his sister to California, starting his law enforcement career as a Fresno Deputy Sheriff from 1955-1957 retiring from the San Diego Sheriff's department in 1978 after 21 years. Frank spent an additional 20 years working Security for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and was an active board member and officer of the Retired Deputy Sheriff's Association and The International Footprint Association. Frank loved dancing, socializing, and walking his neighborhood of Allied Gardens with cigar in hand. He joined Mission Valley VFW
Post 3787 in 1968 where he enjoyed daily scotch and cigars, having his own chair on the smoke deck where others could find him for typically lively conversation. He shared his passion for watching and attending sporting events, especially football, with his only daughter. They shared many great times at Chargers games together, frequently tailgating with their friends. Frank is survived by his daughter Karin L. Fowler and many friends who will miss his laugh and larger than life personality. Memorial Service: Wednesday, February 26th, 1 p.m. at Miramar National Cemetery.
