Rose, Fred Kirk BONITA -- Fred Kirk Rose passed away in bonita, CA, on March 31, 2014. He was born in San Diego, CA, at Mercy Hospital on May 14, 1929 to Fred and Grace Rose. He grew up in Chula Vista, CA, where he graduated from Sweetwater High School, Class of 1947. He graduated from San Diego State College in January, 1952 where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Fred married his high school sweetheart, Helen Veleber, and had three children: Nancy Rose, Marilyn Bartkiewicz (Peter) and Barbara Rose. There are two grandchildren: Andy Bartkiewicz and Kate Bartkiewicz De Bruin (Kevin). After 53 years of marriage, Helen passed away. In 2003, he married a former classmate, Etta Bell McClendon and inherited two step- children: Ron Chapman and Corinne Douthit (Mike) in addition to three step-grandchildren: Matt Derian (Elyse), Jennifer Douthit and Stella Ligon. Fred worked for over 35 years at Solar Turbines in the Research and Development Department as an engineer. He was a member of the Chula Vista Masonic Lodge #626 as well as a member of the Community Congregational Church in Chula Vista where he was a member of the choir and was responsible, along with help, for building a beautiful stage in the Fred Bradley Social Hall. Services for Fred will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Roses (Glen Abbey Mortuary) at 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA with a reception at Glen Abbey to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations would greatly be appreciated to the music department or Fine Arts Board at the Church.
