GLATZEL, GEORGE P. August 22, 1940 to January 16, 2013 George Phillip Glatzel passed away at his residence in Escondido, CA on January 16, 2013, at the age of 72. He was born in Manhattan (New York, NY) on August 22, 1940 to Anna and George Glatzel. He graduated from the City College of New York in 1962 with Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering. George had a long and very rewarding career as a Civil Servant that spanned over 40 years with the Navy. His work as a civil servant began in 1962 at the Navy Shipyard in Brooklyn, NY. In 1972 he moved to Doylestown, PA where he worked at the Naval Air Development Center (NADC) and then moved to San Diego, CA in 1996 to work at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC PACIFIC)in San Diego, CA all while staying in the same job. His many years as a civil servant for the Department of Defense involved working on one of the Navy's longest running programs the Ocean Survey Program (OSP). At the time when he began his career the OSP was one of the navy's top priority programs that involved mapping of the ocean floors. During his career he was able to travel to many countries including Europe and Asia. George received the Career Service award in Sep 2004 recognizing his 40 years of service. George was survived by his children Lori Anne Glatzel and George Phillip Glatzel Jr. Funeral arrangements are planned to be held on February 23, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary in Escondido, CA.
