CHERICO, GERALD C. Oct. 7, 1924 to Oct. 18, 2012 Gerald Calvin Cherico (Master/Craftsman) passed away on October 18, 2012. He was a native New Yorker, but called California "home" since 1977. He began his career in 1945 at the School of Modern Photography in NYC, after attending N.Y.U. In 1950, he opened his own studio and specialized in "High Key" bridal portraiture--printing all of his own work. In 1968, he opened Jil-Crest Labs on L. I. and concentrated all his efforts on high quality custom printing for professional studios. He was on the board of the L. I. P.P.A. for three years. He moved to San Diego in 1977 and continued his lab business under the name of Cherico Custom Color out of El Cajon. He has taught printing classes at West Coast School and lectured throughout the country on High Key portraiture, print judging and color printing. Jerry is a past President of P.P.A. and retired from Photic Labs as Quality Control Director. All of his friends and relatives on the East and West coasts will miss him dearly.
