GILBERT CALVIN "GIL" THERIEN

iconTHERIEN, GILBERT "GIL" CALVIN Gilbert "Gil" Calvin Therien was born on September 22, 1930, in Kankakee, Illinois. He grew up in St. Anne, Illinois, and attended high school at Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana. There he played football and sang with the quartet "Three Hicks and a Cup." He attended Butler University, played on the football team and earned a BS in Chemistry. Gil was an Air Force veteran and a forty-year retiree of Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals. Gil married Linda in 1985. They loved to entertain friends and were fortunate to travel extensively. After retirement, Gil was a "Blue Angel" at Grossmont Hospital in San Diego where he provided volunteer services to patients and their loved ones. Gil died on November 26, 2012, at his home in the presence of his wife. Gil is survived by his wife Linda; daughter Virginia Kaiser of Cottonwood, AZ; son Thomas Therien (Kathi) of San Marcos; sister Patricia Bennett (James) of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren and five great-grand-children. Other family members include Nancy James (Tom) of San Diego; Glenn Best (Pam) of Virginia; nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held at Palisades Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 7, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Palisades Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund at 6301 Birchwood, San Diego, CA 92120, or the Grossmont Hospital Auxiliary at 5555 Grossmont Center Drive, La Mesa 91942.
