He was born August 26, 1924 in Springfield, Missouri. He served his country in peace and war in the United States Navy, 1943 to 1973. Notable duty stations were USS WHIPPLE (DD217), wartime Atlantic/Med-iterranean convoy duty; USS IREX (S482), experimental Snorkel submarine, New London; Staff, NROTC, University of California at Los Angeles; USS REGULUS (AF57); Assistant Flag Secretary, Fleet Air Wings, Atlantic; Personnel Officer, USS TICONDEROGA (CVA14), San Diego; Flag Secretary, Naval Forces Marianas, Guam; Staff, Service Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet at San Diego. Navy Commendation Medal, 1973; European-North African Campaign Medal - combat star. He was employed at San Diego County Social Services Department (Eligibility) 1973-1986. He was the only son of the late Mary Josephine Litton and Floyd Eldon Westfall of Torrance, CA. Survived by wife of 52 years, Helen McNeil Westfall, daughter Jean Sharon Westfall of San Diego, son Christopher Martin Westfall of Kaneohe, HI, and daughter Kathleen Rae Brown of Harker Heights, TX; three grandchildren, Rachel, Scott and Elizabeth, and two great-grand-children. Predeceased by son Gary James Westfall (1967). Harvey will be remembered as a wonderful man who was kind to all, loved his family, and could make a mean martini. Graveside services for immediate family will be held at Marine Corps National Cemetery, Miramar on December 14th.
