Henry E. Kolodziej(1923 - 2013)

Kolodziej, Henry E. 11/11/1923 ~ 07/04/2013 SAN DIEGO -- After suffering for close to 10 years with Alzheimer's disease, Henry "Hank" E. Kolodziej passed away on July 4, 2013, from complications related to the disease. Born in Pennsylvania to Polish immigrants, at age 16, Hank enlisted in the Navy and became a shipfitter, served his country in battle most notably the Korean War and World War II, and earned many awards, medals and commendations during service. After 30 years in the U.S. Navy, he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. Following his naval service, Hank was a dedicated employee with NAASCO Shipbuilding where he later retired, then started his own home improvement business. Hank was a hard working man, great provider, and dedicated family man, who also loved playing gin rummy. Hank joins in heaven his wife Florence Kolodziej, who passed away in 2001, his eldest daughter, Rona Oehmke who passed away in 1996, and his son John Kolodziej, who passed away in 2004. He is survived by his daughter Joyce McAlexander, granddaughter Tish, grandson Tyler, and his wife Terah, great- grandsons Aidan and Oliver, and great- granddaughter, Delilah. We will all miss him immensely, and are grateful for all that he has provided to us. Hank was laid to rest following a family graveside service with full military honors at Glen Abbey Memorial Park on Thursday, July 11th.
