HERBERT E. YAHR

iconYAHR, HERBERT E. He was born August 19, 1930 Wausau, WI and died November 7, 2012 Lander, WY, age 82. Raised in Wisconsin and joined the US Navy at 17. In 1953 he married Helen A. Cox from Sedalia, MO. Together, they raised four children, Russell, Herbert R., Wendy Rose and Beth. He served 26 years in the Navy with duty in the Mediterranean and three wartime tours in the Tonkin Gulf of Vietnam. He retired from the Navy Chief ADRC in San Diego followed by a civil service career as Instructor at the Amphib Base. He taught diesel and outboard engine maintenance and repair; retiring a second time in 1987 after 40 years of combined Federal Service. He was a member of Masons 32nd Degree, Shriners, Voiture Nationale 40 and 8, NCOA, Fleet Reserve Assoc., American Legion and VFW Life Member. He was an active member of Lander First United Methodist Church. Big Herb enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and playing cribbage, ace deuce, and backgammon. He was preceded in death by parents Herbert and Rosalia Yahr, sister Geraldine and brother-in-law Roman Gittel, and niece Lynette Gittel. He is survived by his wife Helen, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Glenn and Ronnie Cox, four children, six grandchildren: Amber, Benjamin and Shannon Perry; Brenda, Brandi and David Bowman; three nephews: Martin and Grant Cox and Jay Gittel; niece CeCe Cox; and eight great-grandchildren.
