Illyana Maria McManus

McManus, Illyana Maria EL CAJON -- Illyana McManus passed away in her home on March 4, 2014 after a long battle with cancer, with her husband Terrence McManus by her side. She was 49. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Terry; sons, Kellen, Dylan and Daniel; her mother, Olga Aasen; brothers, David and Michael Aasen; sisters, Mary-Sonja Beasley and Claudia Blaine; 17 nieces and nephews, many cousins, extended family members and friends. Illyana was born to Donald and Olga Aasen and grew up in Los Altos, CA. She excelled in school and was an accomplished dancer, having attended classes at the San Francisco Ballet. Illyana spent a semester modeling in Japan after which she earned her BA in Business from USD and an MS in Information Systems from SDSU. She became a teacher and most recently was an instructor at Grossmont College. The greatest loves of her life were her three boys and her husband. A devoted mother, Illyana delighted in taking her boys to soccer, baseball, hockey, wrestling and football events. She was active in her church and gave selflessly to her family, friends and colleagues. She truly lived during the years she had cancer despite chemo treatments, her irrepressible energy an inspiration to all who knew her healthy and while fighting this disease. Illyana was beloved by all and will be immeasurably missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the . Two services will be held: A funeral mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 21, at St. William Catholic Church in Los Altos, CA, and a Memorial Celebration of Life at 10 a.m. on March 26 at the Maloney Center / Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in El Cajon, CA.
