ATKINSON, IMOGENE MARIE Imogene passed away peacefully at her home in Encinitas on November 4, 2012. She was born in Denver, Colorado in 1925, the first of three children born to Clarence and Ethel Stillman. Imogene was raised in the Del Mar/Solana Beach area, and lived in San Diego County her entire life. She attended San Dieguito High School and worked at the Del Mar Hotel during high school. She was an avid swimmer who spent many of her early days swimming off the Del Mar shore. During her life, she always enjoyed going to the beach to swim and watch the waves, the children, and the sea gulls. In her later years, she never turned down a trip to the beach, especially a visit to Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. Imogene worked for the Dictaphone/Bowes Corporation for over 20 years before returning to General Dynamics where she had worked after high school. At General Dynamics, she made many friends here in San Diego. She was one of the initial employees to start a Walking Club at the company. Over the years, the Club went on many walks to raise money for a wide range of charitable organizations. She continued walking nearly everyday until a few months before her passing. Imogene leaves behind two children, Terry Atkinson of Rancho Santa Fe, and Randy Atkinson of Oceanside. She is also survived by her two brothers, Dr. Robert Stillman of Encinitas, and Ronald (Butch) Stillman of Aguanga, CA. In addition, she is survived by three grandchildren, Lindsey Atkinson of Santa Barbara; Taylor Atkinson, a student at SDSU; and Moises Atkinson who attends Oceanside High School. Imogene will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In the end, she completed a 87-year Journey of Life that touched many lives along the way. She may have passed away, but she will never be forgotten. A Private Celebration of her Life will be held in early 2013; the time, date, and place to be announced.
