SCHERER, JACY Jacy Scherer, born Jacy Costa Pereira, passed away January 15, 2013. Born in Limoeiro, Pernambuco, Brazil in 1927. She attended the American Baptist School where she learned English. With this skill she worked at the American Consulate in Recife and Pan American Airlines. Jacy immigrated to the United States in 1958. She married William Scherer and resided in Point Loma, San Diego, for the remainder of her life. Jacy was a masterful designer and seamstress. She confec-tioned many styles throughout the years for the Portuguese Festa's and was a pillar in Portuguese and Brazilian community. She became an interpreter for the courts of San Diego: Municipal, State, superior courts and many branches of the federal government. Kind, generous and charitable, Jacy gave selflessly of her time and talent to many causes. She received commendation from 10 News for their leadership award for her work with the Rachel Center for Women , where she provided and served hot meals for the homeless for many years. Jacy is survived by her husband, William Scherer, her children, Robert, Wayne and Nelson Scherer, her siblings, Nelson Pereira, Vera Soeiro, Luiz Pereira and Joao Costa and a plethora of family members and friends. Her kind heart and spirit will be greatly missed. A mass in her honor will be held Thursday, January 24th, 10:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Point Loma, San Diego.
