Scouller, Joan 11/14/1925 ~ 09/26/2013 TUCSON, AZ -- Joan Elder Scouller passed away at her home in Tucson, AZ, under the care of Hospice. She is survived by her son, John, and wife Anna Mae Scouller, of Santa Clarita, CA, two grandsons, Robert Sean and Brendon Ray Scouller, a brother Stewart Elder and wife Irene, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Donald in 2009. Joan was born in Detroit, Michigan, to James and Caroline Elder. In 1929, the family moved to Hartford, Michigan. She completed high school in 1943 and then in 1948 she graduated with a BS degree in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. She joined the Army
in 1949 and was commissioned an officer in the Women's Medical Specialist Corps. She was assigned to Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, TX. It was here that she met Lt. Don Scouller who was stationed at Fort Bliss. They were married on Dec. 7, 1950 in Las Cruces, NM. After discharge from the Army in 1953, they moved to San Diego. and son John was born Dec. 2, 1958. In 1961, she became an elementary school teacher
in San Diego City Schools. In 1969, she earned a Master's degree and then became a Television Resource teacher for San Diego City schools. Joan loved to travel and she became a travel agent which expanded her travel experience to include a trip around the world and many other trips abroad especially to England where she had many friends. They moved to Sun City Vistoso, AZ, in 1993 and became very active in community clubs and theatrical activities. After Don's death, she moved to her retirement home at La Cholla Country Club. A memorial service was held at Sun City and she will be inurned at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego on Nov. 8th at 2:30 p.m.
