Drummey, John "Jack" MENIFEE -- John Burns Drummey of Menifee, died August 26, 2013, born in Pittsburgh, PA, August 21, 1928 to Ellen and Dennis Drummey. He leaves his wife Peg of 55 years, daughters, Diana, Cyndy (Michael), Katy (Larry), son, Tom (Stacy) and 10 grandchildren. Jack grew up in Yonkers, NY, joined the Navy in '45, served on the USS Intrepid and Randolph. Assigned to PCS 883 in Panama making 47 transits of the canal during the Korean War
. He studied at Milwaukee School of Eng and LSU, then entered the Navy's Nuclear Power Program. He served aboard the USS Long Beach and in 1964, with the other Nuclear Surface ships, Enterprise, Bainbridge, circled the globe as Operation Sea Orbit, returning to Norfolk in October '64, without taking provisions or fuel. Jack was appointed to Warrant Officer in '65 on the USS Aludra, then retired as CWO in 1969 and settled in San Diego. After retirement from General Dynamics '88, Jack and Peg sold their home in Chula Vista and roamed the US for seven years in their motorhome. In '95, they retired to Menifee. Jack volunteered at the OERM in Perris restoring old street cars and greeting the children who came to see Thomas the Tank Train. He was a life member of the Cruiser Sailors Assn. and Temecula Valley Elks. Jack will be cremated for a sea burial with full military honors. A Celebration of his life will be September 21st at 2 p.m. at the Palmilla Clubhouse, Palm Villa Dr. in Menifee. Remembrances may be made to the Animal Friends of the Valley in Wildomar, CA 92595.
