Ekegren, John William 1922 ~ 2014 VISTA -- Bill Ekegren passed away from complications of cancer on February 22, 2014. Born in Newark, NJ, Bill lived most of his life on the east coast coming to Vista in 1988. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from Cornell in 1944. While at Cornell, he met his future wife Betty Finney. They were married in 1945. Although his degree was in industrial engineering, anyone who knew him understands that his true calling was sales. He worked as a salesman, and then Sales Manager, for the Accurate Bushing Company in New Jersey from 1948 through 1966. In 1967, he became the VP of Sales for the Whiten Machine Company in MA. In 1969, he started his own Drill Jig Bushing distribution business, Boneham Metal Products, where he remained, as President and CEO, until his retirement in 1988. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army
. As most of you know, Bill was an avid golfer and no stranger to the Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista, CA. Golf was his passion and he treated it like his mission in life, playing 18 holes most days and carrying his clubs until well into his 80's. He enjoyed bridge and gin rummy and was known to have a great card sense. Bill was outgoing, charming and made friends very easily and was lucky to have many good ones. His loving wife of more than 50 years, Betty, predeceased Bill in 1998. He was fortunate enough to find a second love in Helen Gutcheon who passed away several years ago. Bill is survived by his son, John Ekegren and his wife, Donna of Connecticut; his daughter Karen Ekegren and her husband, Karl Sellery of Vista; his two grand- children, Julie Miller and her husband, Jamie of Connecticut and Lindsay Ekegren of Connecticut; and his four great- grandchildren, Melissa, Johnny, Hailey, and Brooke Miller.
