JOSEPH GERALD "JOE" TULLY

TULLY, JOSEPH "JOE" GERALD Joseph "Joe" Gerald, died January 5, 2013, at the age of 76, in Poway, CA, after an extended illness. He was born June 23, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Joseph G. Tully and Marie (Morrison) Tully of West Babylon, NY. He is also survived by his daughters, Kathy (Philip) Schneider of Cincinnati, OH, Joanne (Mark) Standlee and Susan Tully of La Jolla, a brother, Richard (Idamarie) Tully of W. Islip, NY, grandchildren Philip (Heidi) Schneider of Boston, MA, Katherine Schneider of Denver, CO and James Baltad of La Jolla, as well as three nieces, one great-nephew and numerous cousins. Joe was a longstanding member of the El Cajon business community. He was a man of many interests and talents that included flying small aircraft, hang gliding, writing, running marathons, singing and spending time in his beloved ocean. He counted among his varied careers jobs as a Fuller Brush Man, cook on a scallop boat, lifeguard, milkman, driving instructor, real estate agent and president of his own paper converting company before the age of thirty, to name just a few. Whatever his endeavor, he was never afraid of hard work and appreciated that "can do" attitude in his peers and employees. He was a great teller of jokes with a gift of mimicry to accompany them and had a propensity for paronomasia that he frequently inflicted on his family and friends with impunity. Joe donated his body to UCSD School of Medicine. A Mass will be held in his honor on Saturday, February 2nd, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral, 1535 3rd Avenue, San Diego 92101. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mercy Outreach Surgical Team/MHF, MER-99, 4077 Fifth Ave, San Diego 92103 or Toussaint Academy, c/o Father Joe's Villages, 3555 E Street, San Diego 92101.
