JOSEPH "JOE" VALATKA

iconVALATKA, JOSEPH "JOE" Joseph "Joe" Valatka, 93, passed away peacefully at his home in San Diego on February 25, 2013. His family was at his side. Joe was born in Hyde Park, MA, on June 12, 1919 and moved to the San Diego area in 1983. He was a proud veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific as part of the 78th fighter squadron. Overseas for 39 months, he saw action on both Iwo Jima and Midway. Joe loved social interaction, was a great family man, friend and neighbor. He is survived by Helen, his wife of 66 years, sister Anne Knasas of Quincy, MA, son Joe Jr. of Houston, TX, and daughter Maryann of Sacramento, CA. Joe is also survived by three granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in San Diego, CA, at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4th, followed by a graveside military service at Miramar National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary, Vitas Hospice of San Diego or your local VFW.
