Dr. Lewis D. Michaelson

Michaelson, Dr. Lewis D. ESCONDIDO -- Dr. Lewis D. Michaelson of Escondido passed away on March 6, 2013. He is survived by three children, Kristine, Lewis and John; and six grandchildren. Dr. Mike, as he was known by most, was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Doris; and his oldest daughter, Nancy. Dr. Mike was born in 1924 in Montpelier, Idaho. Near the end of World War II, he met his wife-to-be, Doris and joined the Navy, becoming an amphibious airplane pilot, patrolling for submarines after World War II and during the Korean War. After finishing active duty, Mike started college at the University of Michigan and finished at the University of Utah, where he earned his medical degree. After graduating, the family moved to San Diego County. Dr. Mike built a successful career in La Mesa, serving thousands of patients and four generations of families, first in private practice, and later as a family doctor with the Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group. He was admired for his skills as a diagnostician, his intelligence, his love of family and for his humor. In later life, he was admired for his devotion to Doris during her protracted bout with Alzheimers, during which he was her primary caregiver. He will be greatly missed and mourned by all who knew him. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m., with the memorial services at 11 a.m., on Monday, March 11th, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,1250 Borden Road, San Marcos, CA 92069. Burial will follow at 2pm at Mt. Hope Cemetery in San Diego.
