Mario J. Zuffinetti

Zuffinetti, Mario J. Lt. CMDR USN Ret US Navy SAN DIEGO -- Loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at Scripps Memorial La Jolla on January 5, 2014 of heart failure. Mario was born in San Rafael, Calif. and raised in Mill Valley and was the son of Giovanni and Ennocientina Zuffinetti who emigrated from Castado Primo, Italy. He was preceded in death by his brothers Luigi, Carlo, Louis and Franco. He was also preceded in death by his late wife Wanda and daughter Cathy Zuffinetti. Mario served faithfully and honorably for 30 years in the Navy having enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 just prior to the start of WWII. He served aboard the USS Enterprise at the Battle of Guadalcanal and served under Admiral Halsey. Mario fought three wars, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He also served aboard various aircraft carriers including the Enterprise, Coral Sea, Kitty Hawk and the Constellation. He recently had the great pleasure of participating in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to view the WWII monument. He is survived by his wife Julie Zuffinetti, son Michael Zuffinetti of Texas, grandchildren Adam Zuffinetti (Carly), John Zuffinetti (Brittany), Debi Lamb (Ritchie), Jeni Zuffinetti, Angela Zuffinetti (Chris), Andrew Lastrico (Sara), and Anthony Lastrico (Marisa), and great-grandchildren, Tyler Lastrico, Chiara Lastrico, Kylee Lamb, Tyler Lamb, Amelia Lastrico and Brennan Zuffinetti. He is also survived by stepchildren Mike Peterson, Michelle Keys (Randy), Jesi Nacif (Chris) and step- grandchildren Kelly Cavanaugh, Brianne Keys, Jasmine Garcia and Maya Nacif Services will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Pt. Loma, CA on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to: Honor Flight San Diego Attn: Donations, 9423 Keck Ct., San Diego, CA 92129 (Memo: Mario Zuffinetti).
