Hipwell, Mary Ann 11/24/1925 ~ 06/21/2013 SAN DIEGO -- It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Hipwell on June 21, 2013. Mary will now be in peace and no longer suffering. Mary was born in Liverpool, England on November 24, 1925 to William and Hannah Greer. She grew up on Scotland Road during World War II and withstood the bombs being dropped on their home. During the war she worked welding Sten guns for the war effort. Mary met Harry Hipwell in 1947 while dancing at the Tower Ballroom in New Brighton, England. They continued to dance, fell in love and were married in 1949. They started a family and two children, Robert and Susan were born. In 1952 they immigrated to Victoria, Canada where two more children were born, Laverne and Martin. In 1959 they immigrated once again to San Diego, CA, where they resided in Serra Mesa and two more children were born, Peter and Paul. Mary was great at knitting, sewing, baking, gardening, as well as dancing, golfing and bowling but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. Mary will be remembered for the love and devotion she gave her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren making each one of us feel special and loved. Even though she always told us, there were no special hot pots. Mary leaves behind her loving husband of 63 years, Harry Hipwell, six children, spouses, 20 grandchildren and 28 1/2 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday, July 13th at 2:00 p.m., at the Elks Lodge
