GiammarinaroMary K. EL CAJON -- Mary Kathleen was born August 28, 1949 in East Chicago, Indiana and moved to San Diego with her family as a child. She attended San Diego High School, graduating in 1967. During her time at high school, she met Joseph Giammarinaro. It was not long before the two were married, in June 1971, and started a family. As her children grew, she began working outside the home for San Diego Community College District Continuing Education, where she worked for 28 years before retiring in 2010. While she was there, she was promoted to office manager in 1988 and was honored with the President's Distinguished Leadership Award in 2009. Mary had a love for reading, traveling, gambling at the casinos, but no love could surpass the love that she had for her family. Known to her grandchildren as Ba, she would often be seen at their games, plays and recitals cheering them on. Mary was diagnosed with lung cancer five years ago, but she never gave up. She maintained a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future and continued to be involved in the lives of her family and friends. She died at home on March 9, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Mary is survived by her husband Joseph, their sons Joseph and Dominic, her daughters- in-law Heather and Adriana and her beloved grandchildren, Benjamin, Maya, Morgan and Kennedi.
