McLEOD, NANCY EMMELINE (BAKER) Nancy McLeod, born September 19, 1916, at Los Angeles, California, died November 26, 2012, at Bend, Oregon. Nancy lived from the age of one month in the same home in the Mission Hills section of San Diego and was the last of four siblings. Her father T.B. Baker operated a roofing business at San Diego until his death in 1940. She attended Grant Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High and San Diego High Schools graduating in 1934. She later graduated from San Diego State College. She was married in December 1940, to William A. McLeod, a native of Nova Scotia, Canada who died in 1994. Nancy worked as a Deputy County Assessor during the early 1950s. She later taught gifted 4th Graders at Whittier Elementary School in the Clairemont area of San Diego for 20 years until she retired in 1978. Nancy came from a musical family and had formal training. She played the piano since the age of six and also learned the ukulele, cello, oboe, and guitar. She taught music and the school chorus. She was also quite disciplined in and enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, and genealogy. She is survived by a son, Daniel B. MacLeod of Bend, Oregon, a grandson, Daniel A. MacLeod, a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth MacLeod, and a great-grandson, Garrett H. MacLeod all from San Diego.
