Rose Ruth Kuntz

iconKuntz, Rose Ruth 10/06/1912 - 02/25/2013 Rose Ruth Kuntz passed away February 25, 2013. She celebrated life to its fullest for 100 years. She was born Rose Ruth Kanefsky of Hartford, Connecticut. She traveled by car at an early age, across country with mother Anna, brother Paul and sister Edythe to San Diego, settling in North Park. Rose graduated from San Diego High School class of 1930. She proudly attended her 80th reunion. In the 1940s, she was secretary to the Mayor. She married Seymour Kuntz, Ocean Beach optometrist in 1948 and relocated to Point Loma where they raised three daughters in the Sunset Cliffs area. She became a prominent member and president of the Optometric Association Womens' Auxiliary. Rose continued to live in her Point Loma home until she was 99. As a lover of nature, waves, beach, and wind in the trees, it was only fitting that movement through dance was her passion. Modern dance classes, jazzercise and attending dance and theatre performances with her daughters were a big part of her life. As avid "theatre goers", Rose and Seymour frequented the Old Globe Theatre and were members for over thirty years. They volunteered as docents and served on the Globe Guilder Steering Committee. Rose was active in the Jewish Community, involved with Hadassah, B'nai B'rith and continued to attend religious services at Congregation Beth Israel into her 90s. Significant people in Rose's last years were extraordinary caregivers: our angel Diana, our goddess Cheryl, sweet Jennifer and Jazmine, Courtney and the entire staff at Jeanne's Senior Care, San Diego Hospice and our music angel, Noelle. Rose Ruth is survived by her devoted daughters, Barbara, Carolyn and Deborah, loving sons-in-law, Alan Mallman, Ronald Harris, and Chuck Thorne, beloved grandchildren Nina Mei, Maxim Aaron and Oksanna Rebecca, niece Harriet Marsh of Los Angeles, nephews Jerry and Dick Lund, native San Diegans, and Spencer, Hilary, Lisa and Rebecca, loving children of Ronald Harris.
