BLAY JR., ROY H. CPO U.S. Navy (Ret.) Born: March 8, 1949 in Delray, Michigan Died: December 26, 2012 in San Diego, California Roy was born on March 8, 1949 in Delray, Michigan to the late parents of Wilma and Roy Blay Sr. and was the beloved husband of Ukie "Kay" Blay for 29 years. Roy grew up in Michigan and graduated from Melvindale High School in 1967. After graduation he joined the Navy to serve his Country and to follow the footsteps of his father, a Wolrd War II Navy veteran. He served three tours of duty during the Vietnam War and served on Navy ships such as the USS Mahan, USS Dubuque and USS Cimarron. Roy honorably and proudly served for 22 years, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In 1989, after retirement from the Navy, he settled with his wife in San Diego, California. At the time of his passing, he was a Boiler Technician with the Scripps Institute in La Jolla, California. Roy is survived by his wife Kay; 10 siblings - Cheri, Kathy, Earl, Christy, George II, Patty, Barbara, Gary, Michael and Chuck; 4 children - Kathy, Jackie, Suzanne, and James; 7 grandchildren - John, Felissa, James, River, Sierra, Harry and Audrey: and 6 great-grandchildren - Ruben, Nadia, John Michael, Angelina, Jacob and Desirae; and numerous nieces and nephews. Roy loved his Country, the Navy, his family and his friends deeply. He was always ready to assist anyone with a helping hand, a word of advice or provide moral support. He was beloved by those around him. Roy is to be cremated and his ashes laid to rest with full military honors on January 29, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA 92122. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial donation for Roy be made to the .
