Thomas L. Dickey(1932 - 2013)

Dickey, Thomas L. SAN MARCOS -- Thomas L. Dickey, 81, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born February 6, 1932 in Oklahoma and grew up in Iowa. After high school, Tom joined the U.S. Navy where he served for over 20 years, retiring as a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman. After retiring from the Navy in 1971, Tom moved to San Diego where he worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in La Jolla and then at the Internal Revenue Service. He met the love of his life, Kathie, at the VA Hospital and they were married in 1973. Tom acquired his real estate broker license and also opened his own tax practice. Tom spent over 25 years practicing real estate in the North County Coastal area and continued his tax practice until his death. He will always be missed and dearly loved by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, compassion, and willingness to help others. Tom loved to play golf and travel. He and Kathie enjoyed many golf vacations, cruises and European trips with family over the years. Tom is survived by his wife, Kathie; his daughters, Kim Dickey, Debi Schober (Richard), Judy Hollinger (John); grandchildren, Eryka Grace, Judy, Julie and John Paul; sister-in-law, Alice Dryden (John); niece and nephews, Michael, Stephen and Julia; six great- grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and many other loving relatives. A memorial service with military honors will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on July 19th at 11:00 am for family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held following the services.
