iconHARASTY, ALBERT E. Albert Harasty, passed away at home on December 7,2012, from mesothelioma. He was born August 28, 1935 to Mary and Alex Harasty in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The family moved to West Covina in 1950. He graduated from the University of Redlands in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology. In 1958, Al was accepted to the Naval Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island and commissioned in March 1959. Lt. JG Albert Harasty served as engineering officer on the USS Woodpecker and scheduling officer at the Navy Recruiting Center in San Diego. In 1962, Al married Patricia Lucas in Pasadena. They made their home in West Covina where their son Michael and their daughter Alicia were born. In 2000, Al and Pat retired to San Diego. Soon thereafter they became proud grandparents to Matthew and Jillian. Al leaves his wife of 50 years, Patricia, daughter Alicia (Randy) Beecher, son Michael, two grandchildren, Matthew and Jillian, all of San Diego, and his brother Zoltan A. (Walt) Harasty (Jayne) of Solvang, CA and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at the Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego on December 18th, at 12:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Kaiser Per-manente Hospice, The Salvation Army or .
