Calvin Green Obituary
Green, Calvin SAN DIEGO -- Calvin Green 5/25/29-1/19/2014 Father, grandfather, bon vivant and all-around good friend to many passed away in San Diego after suffering a stroke in June 2013. Born in Chula Vista, he attended public schools near his home on Nile Street, what is now I-805 and University Avenue. He was a Hoover High Alum, Class of 1947. He attended Palomar College and San Diego State College. He served in the US Army and earned two Bronze Stars while in Korea. He was Honorably discharged in 1952. He had a successful career in the lighting business and worked for Lightcraft of California. Later, he was an owner of La Jolla Lighting in the Bird Rock area. He had an eye for design and worked with many developers over the years. After honing his skills at minimizing non-essential expenditures he managed to retire early to travel and enjoy life. He is survived by his partner of over 40 years, Carol Osendott. They traveled and shared many happy times at their second home in Yuma which he loved. He also loved the beach, especially South Mission, The Zoo, and Wild Animal Park. Most weekends he was outside with his plants in Yuma or in San Diego soaking up the sun. His other great love was his pals. He looked forward to meeting his friends for a beer on Fridays for lunch when he was in town. Wong's on Sunday mornings was another of his favorites because of the steak and eggs and "best bloody marys" in town. He was a man of few words, but never spared advice should it be necessary. He is survived by his brother, George and (Betsy), two children, Barry (Tanya), Beth Green and three grandchildren, Ian, Erica and Rebekah. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to . A service will be held on Sunday 1/26/2014 at El Camino Memorial Park at 2:00 P.M.
