A pioneer in the tuna industry he gained tremendous respect and was well regarded for his extensive knowledge and leadership. His career spanned from the era of pole fishing to modern day purse seining. He and his wife were active members in the Portuguese community, supporting various organizations and were instrumental in starting the Cabrillo Festival. Carl loved his vintage Thunderbird cars and was a long time member ofthe Thunderbird club of San Diego. In his golden years, he could often be spotted sitting on his favorite bench on Shelter Island watching the boats come in. What he enjoyed most were family gatherings.
