Baxter, Charles 06/17/1930 ~ 05/07/2014 LEMON GROVE -- Charles D. Baxter, 83, passed away May 7, 2014, due to complications of Alzheimer's. Born June 17, 1930 in Kansas City, KS, to the late C. Forrest and Helen Baxter. Chuck graduated from San Diego High School in 1947. He was an Eagle Scout and was one of three boys from San Diego to attend the 6th World Scout Jamboree in 1947 in France. After the devastation of WWII, this event was aptly named the "Jamboree of Peace." Chuck served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He earned his BS from San Diego State College (SDSU). He was co-owner of Lemon Grove Sheet Metal Works for many years before accepting the position as Chapter Manager of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors Association (SMACNA) of San Diego, where he worked for 30+ years, advocating the unionized sheet metal industry and negotiating labor agreements. Through the years his great sense of humor and agreeable demeanor never failed, even as he lost his memories. He was a warm, funny, gentle-man who embodied integrity. He is survived by his wife Marlene, his sister Jan Weinstein (husband Stanley), his son Brian (wife Jo) Baxter, his son Scott Baxter and his daughter Linda Baxter-Jennings and four grandchildren.
