Obituary Condolences

LEHEW, CHARMON M. November 4, 1926 to June 1, 2012 Charmon Lehew distinquished San Diego county educator and native San Diegan passed on June 1, 2012. Charmon was born on November 4, 1926 to Marion and Von Marshall. She graduated from Grossmont High School in 1944 and San Diego State in University in 1949. She taught in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District from 1961 to 1990. Charmon was the principal at Spring Valley, Bancroft and Murdock Elementary Schools. She was Curriculum Coordinator, Director of Elementary Education and Assistant Superintendent. After retiring from La Mesa-Spring Valley, Charmon worked with the San Diego County Office of Education as a consultant and continued as an adjunct professor with the school of education at San Diego State University. She received the San Diego State University Distinguished Alumni Award, the Monty, for her service in education. Charmon will be deeply missed by her husband of more than 62 years, Clarke Lehew, her sons Mark Lehew of Jamul, Karl Lehew of La Mesa, Eric Lehew of Valley Center, her daughter Janis Hughes of Boulder, Colorado, her older brother, Karl Marshall, and her eight grandchildren, her four great grandchildren, as well as the members of the extended family of 19 young adults who lived with the family at various times in order to complete their education. The celebration of life is planned for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Nan Couts Cottage in McArthur Park, 5054 Memorial Drive, La Mesa, CA.
