Obituary Condolences

KEFALAS, CHRIST December 16, 1939 to April 2, 2012 Christ, age 72, died at home in the presence of his family from kidney cancer. The son of Greek immigrants, he was born in New York City and graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1958. He left New York and served for four years as a medic in the Air Force. After his discharge, he followed his brother, Bill, first to Seattle enrolling in the University of Washington and then to San Diego, where he attended San Diego State and attained a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in social work. While earning his MSW, he met Betsy who would later become his wife. Christ's professional interest was working with at-risk youth. He worked for San Diego County Probation, Children's Therapeutic Community, and Kaiser Department of Psychiatry. Those who knew Christ knew he was passionate about cooking, traveling, camping, hockey - "Go Kings!" - and "his" Chargers. His proudest achievement was his children. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind son, Michael (Amanda) and daughter, Katina (K.C.) Donations in memory of Christ may be sent to The Grand Circle Foundation, 347 Congress Street, Boston, MA 02210, where they will support schools and orphanages in southeast Asia.
