I literally found out Chris died this very moment, while trying to find a contact address to congratulate him on his series of brilliant papers on the subject intercalation in the Roman calendars. He was a truly outstanding and inspiring scholar and the world is so much poorer for his loss.

I realise this is very late in the piece, but I only just discovered that Chris died four years ago. I am very sorry to hear this. I hope his passing was peaceful. We corresponded for some years on the issues of Greek and Roman calendars he mentions me in the Acknowledgements of his fine book, 'Alexandria and the Moon' and I valued his judgements.

I knew almost nothing about this amazing scholar, except the information that could be gleaned from the home page of his remarkable site about the genealogy of the Ptolemy dynasty, and his papers uploaded at academia.edu. One of his striking comments was instrumental in my plotting of Raiders of the Nile, as can be read in the Author's Note at the end of that novel. Hail and farewell, Chris Bennett! Chris was such a smart person, a true gentleman, and Anne's perfect soulmate. I remember how excited Anne was the first time she went out with him and discovered he was an Egyptologist because her father had been one too, so it seemed like a sign that they were meant to be. I also remember how long it took Chris to make the first move with Anne. I believe it was a few months. Of course, once he did, they never looked back.
I am very sorry for your loss, Anne.
My cell phone number is 415 218 0826 and my email is [email protected]
I hope we can be in touch.

The world lost a wonderful person, I worked with Chris at Tiernan Communications and enjoyed every moment I had with him. His ability to switch between English and Australian accents always amazed me.
He will always be a great memory that brings me joy.

It is nice to finally see a photograph of the man I even wrote an article with, but never met or spoke to.
May his memory live on here and in his work.

I will miss our exchanges on ancient calendarics. You were the only expert whose views meant a lot to me.
RIP.

I was very surprised to see the obituary of Chris & the photo of Anne & Chris.
I worked with Anne at a law book publishing company in Carlsbad when Anne & Susan first arrived from the UK.
I attended Chris & Anne's wedding of which I volunteered my husband Jack as the photographer! There was alot of love & happiness between Chris & Anne. I am so glad they had this time together.
I have lost contact with Anne & wanted her to know I lost my husband Jack in 2005 to leukemia.
Anne, if you need anything do not hesitate to call my cell 760-220-0174 or email [email protected]
