Dominick Lawrence "aka Shine" Scarafone Obituary
Scarafone, Dominick Lawrence "aka Shine" 03/09/1915 ~ 01/18/2014 SAN DIEGO -- Dominick Scarafone passed away on January 18, 2014. He was born in East Boston, MA, one of nine brothers. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 in the Seabees 33rd Battalion. After leaving the Navy, he worked for the Boston Naval ship yard as a machinist and retired in 1972. He married Harriet Claire Santoro in 1965. Dominick and Claire moved to San Diego in the early 1970s where they lived out their lives, happily married. They were together until Claire's death in 1994. Dominick was a member of The American Legion La Mesa Post 282, the San Diego Elks Lodge #168 and the Mission Valley VFW Post 3787. He taught Ballroom dancing, loved to play golf and enjoyed bowling. Even at 98 years of age, he still ate pasta and pizza, like a true Italian! He is survived by one brother, Nicholas Scarafone of Hollywood, FL, his step-grandson Anthony Santoro of Las Vegas, NV and many nieces and nephews. A mass will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014, at 10 a.m. at our Lady of Sacred Heart Church, 4177 Marlborough Ave., San Diego, CA 92105, (619) 280-0515.
